Counterfiet Pills Made with Fentanyl

Monday, November 29, 2021   (0 Comments)
Reports of counterfeit Adderall—most often containing variable quantities of methamphetamine—are among the fake drug threats to kids that keep me up at night.

Fake pills, which were first manufactured by smaller, clandestine operations have exploded in variety and prevalence since international cartel operations have waded into the business. Once a counterfeiter owns a pill press, all they need to do is change out their pill dies from oxycodone to Adderall and their ingredients from fentanyl to meth, make a prescription fake that is popular with both high school and college students.

We tend to think of counterfeit pills made with fentanyl as a new problem. This wide-ranging case involved fentanyl production in China, distribution management from a Canadian prison, and mail-order and street distribution in the United States started as early as 2013

In part 2 of our 5-part series, Straight Outta Quebec, we tell the tale of a fentanyl pill distribution ring run from behind bars in Canada. Their pills and powder poisoned at least 11 U.S. residents, and killed four of them.
