HHS Will Not Impose Penalties for Some COVID-19 Vaccine HIPAA Violations

On Jan. 19, the HHS Office of Civil Rights announced that it would not impose penalties for good faith violations of HIPAA rules connected with individual appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine. The policy retroactively applies to Dec. 11, 2020. The rule applies only to good faith violations as a result of scheduling individual appointments. Providers are encouraged to use privacy safeguards to protect the privacy and security of personal information.
