Uncle Sam needs pharmacists. This week, the CDC told states to be prepared for possible distribution of the first COVID-19 vaccines by Nov. 1. The vaccines have been developed at an unprecedented pace in a program called Operation Warp Speed. Since the pandemic hit, a vaccine that would stop the virus, quell the fear, and stoke the economy has been hoped for. Pharmacists are being asked to be critical players in the strategy. Some have asked why pharmacy should spend so much time on these vaccines. Here are some reasons why:
Pharmacists can make it happen. The country needs pharmacists to be a major player in the administration of the vaccine. Operation Warp Speed's goal is to administer 300 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine. That's not going to happen without pharmacists.
