Did you miss the 2016 Utah Pharmacy Convention & Expo? Last month the Utah Pharmacy Association met for the 124th Annual Utah Pharmacy Convention & Expo. The association was happy to report that even though this is a non-licensure year, the total attendance for the event was up to nearly 200 compared to last year and we were able to prove over 14 hours of education for attendees.
Our Keynote Speaker included Nannette Berenson from Intermountain Health. She provided some great inside into the trends and issues that are happening in the world of pharmacy today. Other topics of education included diabetes, marijuana, MTM, immunization, retirement and financial stability, national updates from APhA, the annual OTC Self Care "Jeopardy" Challenge and our annual Legislative Update from the recent legislative session.
The Thursday night awards banquet included our annual awarding of the Bowl of Hygeia Award. This year's award recipient was Gerald "Jerry" Petersen. Jerry is well deserving of the award as a past president of UPhA and a community pharmacist for many years here in Utah.
Friday included much of our education as well as the vendor Expo Hall, where pharmacists and technicians could visit with many from the profession that provide services and products to make pharmacy a better and more robust profession. Thank you to all those that came and participated. Friday concluded with our Wholesalers Dinner and entertainment provided by master magician, Zane Gray. The highlight of the evening included pulling Bart Manning's $100 bill out of a lemon. Don't believe us, just ask Bart. We are still all amazed.
Plan to attend next year's event May 4-6, 2017 at the Dixie Center.
