 2013 Utah Pharmacists Elections

 

President Elect Candidates

Mike Chamberlain

Mike Chamberlain
South Jordan, Utah

Mike grew up in Bountiful and graduated from the University of Utah with a BS degree in Biology  in 1993. He graduated from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy in 1996.  His first job was at the FHP West Valley clinic.  Then he worked for several years at a long term care pharmacy in Salt Lake City.   He has been the owner of Edgemont Pharmacy in Provo for the last thirteen years.  He is a long-time member of UPhA and NCPA .  Mike is a strong advocate for small business owners and for independent pharmacists.  He wants to make sure that pharmacists have a voice in legislation on issues that will impact pharmacy.  He looks forward to being a part of the UPhA leadership.  Mike and his wife Connie have six children ages 6 to 19.  He enjoys golfing, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family. 

 

 

Greg Myers

 

Greg Myers, PharmD

I graduated from The University of Wyoming in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and earned my Doctor of Pharmacy from The University of Florida in 2009.  I am employed with Intermountain Healthcare as a pharmacy manager in a clinic setting.  I am an immunizing pharmacist, work with asthmatic patients.   I have been a member of UPhA for several years but most recently have served on the Board of Trustees for the past 3 years and this last year, I served the organization as Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee.  I have actively participated in the activities of UPhA, have made CE presentations at conventions, and worked with others on lobby efforts involving pharmacy issues with the Utah Legislature.  I also serve community pharmacy as a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Advisory Committee with SelectHealth and as a community pharmacy member on the Utah Medicaid Advisory Committee.  I enjoy working with others in promoting the benefits of the community pharmacist and promoting the profession as a vital and important component of our healthcare system.  I feel now more than ever that our healthcare system in going to depend on the community pharmacist in helping patients manage disease states in addition to our dispensing duties.  It elected, I will continue to work towards representing pharmacy and promoting our services and profession as we enter into this exciting new era of the Utah Pharmacists Association.

Jeff Gatzemeier

Jeff graduated from pharmacy school in 2006 from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. After graduating, he took a position with Harmons where he worked for several years before leaving to start his own independent pharmacy in Magna.  After three years, Oquirrh Mountain Pharmacy is thriving and Jeff recently recently signed a lease to open an additional location. Jeff was honored as the 2009 Innovative Young Pharmacist and has served for the past several years on the UPhA board. Jeff is passionate about serving with UPhA and supporting our profession and looks forward to the changes coming to the Association and is excited to help. 

 

Kelly Turpin

 

 

Having been conceived while her father was in pharmacy school, Kelly Turpin literally grew up in the world of pharmacy.  At a young age, she began working in her father’s independent pharmacy in Tennessee as a cashier.  Eventually, she was promoted to the role of pharmacy technician and in June of 2005, began her first job as a pharmacist.  Though she did not always want to be a pharmacist, she now feels proud to have followed in her father’s footsteps.  Kelly Turpin has made pharmacy her career, and she genuinely cares about the advancement of the profession.

Through her travels and background in both independent and chain pharmacy, Kelly Turpin can bring a unique perspective to the Utah Pharmacists Association.  Kelly has worked as a pharmacist in Tennessee, Hawaii, Colorado and Utah.  She now works for Kmart Pharmacy and was promoted to Pharmacy District Manager after only a year with the company.  Kelly Turpin has now been with Kmart for 2 ½ years.  

 When Kelly is not managing a district that covers the entire state of Utah, southern Idaho and western Wyoming, she enjoys hiking, camping and backpacking.  Kelly also has a deep passion for photography and likes to create landscape photography by combining her love of photography with her love of the outdoors.

Lori Blackner

Lori Blackner is a University of Utah Pharmacy graduate.  She obtained her Pharm D from the University of Florida.  Lori brings a  very diverse background to the UPhA board.  She has practiced pharmacy for 24 years.  Her experience includes positions from the following:  

Poison Control Center, University of Utah,
Hospital pharmacy, McKay Dee Hospital, and Timpanogos Regional Hospital, 
Director of Pharmacy Benchmark Regional Hospital, 
Family Plaza retail pharmacy
Director of Product Development Nutraceutical Corp, Park City UT
Product Development/Senior Scientist, NuSkin Enterprises, Provo, UT

She also lived in Chattanooga TN for four years where she was part of a clinical pharmacy team at a Trauma One hospital. Lori was responsible for the Investigative Studies for Erlanger Medical Center.  

Lori currently works for Pfizer Global Medical, as a Medical Outcomes Specialist.
